The debut Friend album, "Of Whom?", is a first for musicians John Adams and Jamie Grefe. It started out just as an experiment. Mr. Grefe and Mr. Adams, having found themselves in a new country, with almost no recording equipment, and only a guitar and bass, wondered if they could make a song on Mr. Adams' computer. Using a couple of bass lines that Mr. Grefe had written, they plugged in to the back of the computer, turned on the metronome, and pressed record. When they were done for the morning, they went to their jobs. That night, Mr. Adams put together an electronic drum track using some of the royalty-free sounds already on his computer. The next morning, Mr. Grefe was surprised to hear that a real, listenable, piece of music had emerged from all this tinkering. That piece of music became "The Injured."
